AIN'T NO GRAVE

About a year before I even knew about Days Gone, I was sitting at work and the song Ain't No Grave came on. It struck me in just the right mood, that I thought, "This song would be really cool in a post apocalyptic zombie setting". It was largely inspired by The Johnny Cash Project which made me fall in love with the song.

Project: A narrative music video in a zombie apocalypse based on the song Ain't No Grave by Johnny Cash

Platform: PC/Unreal Editor

Engine: Unreal Engine 4.12.5

Production Period: 40 hours

Team Size: Individual

Goal: Practice using Unreal to bring an old project idea to life

Challenges

The game's mechanics constantly updated around me and Bend had many processes and alterations to Unreal, specific to our game, with almost no documentation. So I had to depend heavily on asking around the studio for help from artists, designers, and programmers how things worked coming in early and staying late so as not to disrupt development during a time of almost a year straight of crunch.

From a design perspective, the challenge was almost exclusively in creating the best aesthetics I could using the resources of the game, which, if you play the game, are usually tonally quite different. I think, however, that I did well on this project.

Entire Level Blueprint: Surprisingly simple with all of the tools provided by the engine.
